Notification of Selection:
By April 21, 2017



Applications must be submitted electronically by April 3, 2017, 11:59 pm Pacific Time.
A Letter of Recommendation from your research advisor is also required by April 3, 2017, 11:59 pm Pacific Time.

PLEASE CHECK THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS TO MAKE SURE YOUR APPLICATION IS ELIGIBLE.

IF SO, YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR APPLICATION VIA THE FORM.

Applicants must fill out the electronic form with all required information, including:

  1. Statement of interest and applicability, which demonstrates:
    1. An understanding of the Planetary Science Summer Seminar experience and its value to the applicant's career, providing several concrete examples of how PSSS relates to the applicant's educational, research, and career plans, and how the applicant will benefit.
    2. Participation in current NASA priority/cutting edge endeavors, providing concrete examples of how applicant's work is connected to NASA, and clear and appropriate articulation of how NASA will benefit from the applicant's participation in PSSS.
    3. Intention to do future NASA-sponsored work, with details on envisioned contributions, supported by prior interest through a clear progression of experiences directly supporting NASA work.
    4. Commitment to a career and leadership in planetary science (or related field of interest to NASA) research/exploration, through a clear progression of study, leadership, and employment in these fields and clear articulation of applicant's skills that contribute to his/her current work and future leadership endeavors in the field.
  2. Faculty advisor or current supervisor must provide a signed letter of recommendation on letterhead, which at a minimum addresses:
    1. The student's likelihood of a future career in planetary science or planetary exploration leadership, doing NASA work?
    2. How PSSS will benefit the student
    3. What characteristics the student possesses that make him/her suitable for PSSS

Applicants must be living with the U.S. at time of application AND during the summer session.

All applicants will be notified of their status by April 21, 2017.

NOTE: Selected applicants will only receive CONDITIONAL acceptance status until passing JPL/NASA Security Clearance process to receive FULL acceptance (up to 3 week process). Legal Permanent Residents and Foreign Nationals will be required to provide official Government documentation of their status.
