This program is for those with a strong interest in planetary exploration, and is aimed at science and engineering Post Docs, recent PhDs, and doctoral candidates, engineering students within 6-9 months of completion of MS but not planning to pursue a PhD degree, and junior faculty who teach such students and related coursework.
Science and engineering fields-of-study
|Recent PhD (within past 3 years)|
|PhD who has completed coursework and advanced to candidacy|

Master's level engineering students may be eligible to apply IF:
(1) they are NOT planning to pursue or currently pursuing a PhD, AND
(2) they are within 6-9 months of the completion of the Master's degree.
Undergraduate students are NOT accepted.
|United States citizen||1. MUST be living with the U.S. at time of application AND during summer session.|
2. Selected applicants only receive CONDITIONAL acceptance status until passing JPL/NASA Security clearance process.

Applications are evaluated according to their strength in demonstrating:
1. An understanding of the Planetary Science Summer Seminar experience and its value to the applicant's career, providing several concrete examples of how PSSS relates to the applicant's educational, research, and career plans, and how the applicant will benefit.
2. Participation in current NASA priority/cutting edge endeavors, providing concrete examples of how applicant’s work is connected to NASA, and clear and appropriate articulation of how NASA will benefit from the applicant’s participation in PSSS.
3. Intention to do future NASA-sponsored work, with details on envisioned contributions, supported by prior interest through a clear progression of experiences directly supporting NASA work.
4. Commitment to a career and leadership in planetary science (or related field of interest to NASA) research/exploration, through a clear progression of study, leadership, and employment in these fields, and clear articulation of applicant’s skills that contribute to his/her current work and future leadership endeavors in the field.
